I'm not posting to debate the did he / didn't he side of this but there was an excellent cartoon in the Guardian yesterday where the crowd were portrayed as the wise monkeys. The point being that Brand never hid his misogynistic views nor did he ever come across as non predatory.

I believe in allowing the judicial process to proceed but I will also say the accounts from his accusers give me no cause for disbelief.

Again the depressing sight of the commentary online, people believing in rape myths again to discredit the women. It's exhausting.

But in all of this, it has highlighted how important it is to counter people who "joke" about women in derogatory ways. It's not "edgy". And even if Brand is acquitted, he has still contributed to a culture of misogyny which feeds into female victimisation day to day. And who should come out in support of him? Musk. Whose Twitter / X platform does the square root of zero to protect women from threats based upon their sex.

It is entirely possible Brand believes himself to be innocent while actually being guilty due to his high opinion of himself and seeming low opinion of women. It's a depressing state of affairs that it's not the first time I'm looking at a man in the public eye and thinking that very thing.

It's taken age and sad experience for me to get to that truth but I think you're right.

I hate how lightly misogyny is taken and has been taken. My sister described the time when Brand was joking about choking women while receiving oral as "different times". Hmm. Nope. Same times. Same bloody times.
