I've started rolling through Lucinda Williams' marvelous new memoir. In the early going she writes about an encounter in Macon with the street singer Blind Pearly Brown. I will admit to being wholly ignorant of Brown and his music until now. He definitely had it. He's seen here in a short performance, of a song frequently played by Mississippi Fred McDowell, undoubtedly filmed at the Newport Folk Festival. Yes, that is Howlin' Wolf leaning into the music at the right. Fabulous stuff.
