Hardship, grief, struggling, and suffering are all cornerstones and paramount in appreciation. Not that one must endure in order to appreciate, it's more that one will endure and therefore understands why they appreciate. I don't believe aging brings wisdom, it simply showcases exposure. How someone navigates their exposure is what people call wisdom. Of course this is just my opinion.

Looking back over the course of my life I really do think that I found interests other than love for and intimacy with a man. And I have been able to find that a few times with women. I think the decades since I was last in a relationship with a man have caused me to pursue life in a different way than I would have preferred. But at the age of 69 and not trying to attract a man and all those things about what a drag it is getting old, I think I am the most content ever.

As someone just starting to hit the "growing older sucks" stage, I really appreciate this perspective.
