I don’t have a teen, but I do have period underwear and I use it. My flow has never been all that heavy (YMMV for people with heavy flows) so I would either wear them or tampons depending on how the mood strikes me. The underwear is especially nice for sleeping.
Unsure if you have the Thinx brand where you live, but if so, avoid it because it’s been revealed to contain PFAS chemicals.
